2019年千葉県鋸南町で大型台風が人々や猫たちを襲った。
三毛猫のみたらしちゃんはその被災猫である。

70代の飼い主が5頭の飼い猫を残し被災後死亡。
親族より引き取り依頼を受け保護となった。
猫たちは臆病なのか飼い猫ではあるが素手で抱き上げることができなく、トラップケージを使用し2日かけて無事に５頭保護ができた。
親族からの聞き取りで５頭の猫の年齢は10歳以上であり、動物病院の血液検査で腎臓と肝臓がだいぶ弱っていると診断された。

猫のはこぶねには毎年多くの飼い主がいなくなった猫の引き取り依頼が後をたちません。
それは地元板橋区に限らず今回のように地方からの引き取り依頼も含まれています。

シェルターは行き場を失った猫の最後の砦となっていますが、猫にとって飼い主に先立たられることほど辛く悲しいことはないでしょう。

できれば70歳を迎えると同時にペットはゴールとすることが人にもペットにも折り合いのつけられる頃合いだとおもいます。
逆算すれば、猫を家に迎える最終年齢は50歳から55歳までとするのが望ましいと言うことになります。
ちょっと寂しい思いになりますよね、でもみたらしちゃんたちのような猫を増やさないために現実をしっかりと見つめましょう。
